Guwahati: Chalachitram national film festival 2022 kicked off on Thursday at Jyoti Chitraban auditorium in the city, where film director Aditya J Patwardhan and actor Kankana Chakraborty lighted the inaugural lamp. Organised every year under the initiative of Chalachitram, a subsidiary of Viswa Sangbad Kendra Assam, the two-day festival is aimed to propagate the cinema as a powerful catalyst of social change and a rich handloom of heritage.

‘The Land of Hidden Treasure’ by Sanatan Karmakar was screened as the opening movie, where Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra vice-president Jeetul Sonowal, film maker Bhupen Kaman, Banalata Baishya, Namrata Dutta, etc were present. A book titled ‘Literature and Film from Mute to Motion’ penned by Deepshikha Bhagwati was also released in the afternoon. Short film ‘By Lane 2’, based on the life and works of pioneer Assamese film journalist Pabitra Deka was also screened at the venue.

Ranjan Ghosh’s Bengali movie ‘Mahishasuramardini’ was also screened, prior to which veteran film critic Apurba Sharma lauded the director for his film works. ‘A Nomad River’, the film with the renowned Yogi Sadguru as a participant, will be screened as a closing film on 6 January. It will be followed by the award function, where Kannada film director Suneel Puranik is scheduled to be present, informed Chalachitram president Utpal Dutta and secretary Bhagavata Pritam.
