Shimla: The incessant rainfall has caused severe destruction in the capital city of Shimla. The heavy rains have led to incidents of landslides and trees falling. Tragedy struck on Wednesday morning in the Bladyan area under Dhali police station as a landslide claimed the lives of a couple. The deceased couple has been identified as Jhalu Oren (28) and Raj Kumari (21). The bodies have been recovered from the debris. They were residents of Gumla district in Jharkhand and worked as labourers. The unfortunate incident occurred in the Shol village of Bladyan, where the couple was employed by a contractor at a construction site. The sudden and massive landslide took their lives while they were working.
The Dhali police managed to recover the bodies from the debris and sent them to the IGMC for postmortem examination. The heavy rainfall has caused the city’s footpaths to transform into drains, posing a challenge for employees and people going about their daily activities as the threat of landslides looms.
The district administration has decided to close all educational institutions for today and tomorrow due to the potential for further rainfall. According to the Meteorological Department, Shimla received 132 mm of rainfall by 8:30 am. Unfortunately, there is no relief from the rain in sight. The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours, indicating the continuation of the challenging weather conditions.
