Shri Renuka Ji: In order to get tribal status, the Hatti Community in Himachal Pradesh has been fighting for over three decades. To be recognized as a Scheduled Tribe and preserve their culture and heritage is the ultimate goal. While the state government has made an extensive report on the Hatti tribes, the Hattis are still waiting for the decision to be made.
The Hatti community has long been fighting for their right to be recognized as tribals. Although the BJP is a minority, the party leaders cannot fulfill their promises, and the Hattis are fed up with the political gimmicks. The BJP’s candidate from this area, Suresh Kashyap, has already pledged to plead their case.
The Haati community has long sought tribal status for its unique culture and traditions, which differ greatly from the rest of the country. As a result, they would benefit immensely from the tribal status as it would help them preserve their heritage. This region, which includes about 140 panchayats, is home to nearly two lakh people. Currently, there is a long waiting list for such demands.
In 1996, the Himachal government wrote to the Centre justifying the claim of the Haati community for the status. Since then, various communications and initiatives have strengthened their case, but the area has not yet been declared tribal. In the latest update, the Hatti community has given a joint call to hold “Khumblis” (tribal meetings) on December 25 in the trans-Giri area of District Sirmour in Himachal.
