PPFA demands new city flyover to be named after Maa Kamakhya

Guwahati: Congratulating the concerned authorities and agencies for completing the new flyover starting from Kamakhya temple’s entry gate towards Maligaon with diversion to Pandu township on the bank of mighty Brahmaputra, the Patriotic People’s Front Assam (PPFA) urges Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to name the flyover after Devi Kamakhya, Goddess of fertility, desire and creative power. The 2.6-kilometer-long two-lane flyover, constructed with an expenditure of Rs 420 crore is expected to be inaugurated on Rakhi Purnima (30 August 2023), said the forum of nationalist citizens.

“Mother Goddess Kamakhya, having her abode on Neelachal Parvata inside Guwahati, remains an important identity to this part of Bharat. One of the most important Shakta temples (out of 51 Shakti Peeths across undivided India), it has legends related to Sati (Dakshayani) and Lord Shiva. Sacred Hindu scripture Kalika Purana gives an extensive description of Devi Kamakhya. Since time immemorial, the region is known as the land of Kamrup-Kamakhya. Hence it will be a due honour to all devotees in particular and common people in general if the project is named as Maa Kameswari/Katyayani Flyover,” said a PPFA statement.
